Samaritan Car Care Clinic Receives Grant from Local Giving Circle Give Where You Live NKY
The Samaritan Car Care Clinic received a $6,000 grant at Give Where You Live NKY’s most recent speed philanthropy meeting. This is the second time the nonprofit has been selected as the awardee of this grant.
More than $100,000 from the giving circle’s members has been awarded to Northern Kentucky nonprofits since the group’s inception in 2019.
“The Samaritan Car Care Clinic’s services reach far beyond just fixing a vehicle” said Nancy Grayson, President & CEO of Horizon Community Funds. “They are helping these individuals safely get to work, school, doctors’ appointments, and more. We are excited for the opportunity to help them to continue this important work.”
The Samaritan Car Care Clinic provides complimentary routine vehicle maintenance for low-income individuals, a need that is often overlooked. The clinic helps clients, referred by social service agencies throughout Northern Kentucky, maintain their vehicles – and by extension, their livelihoods. Samaritan Car Care volunteers offer a lifeline to working poor families who may otherwise not have the means to maintain their vehicle. This allows them to access jobs and transport family members to school and health care appointments. Samaritan Car Care Clinic addresses transportation barriers faced by low-income families on their path to self-sufficiency.
Give Where You Live NKY is a joint initiative presented by Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky and Mueller Financial, Inc., and its format lends itself to busy community members who are looking for an easy way to give back to nonprofits that serve Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties.
The giving circle runs on a tight schedule at each meeting. Participating members nominate a nonprofit of their choice, and three names are randomly selected and briefly discussed by the group. The members then vote on their favorite of the three organizations, and each member contributes $100 for the grant to the winning organization. This process takes place in under an hour, just four times per year.
The format of Give Where You Live NKY also provides a way to connect funds to nonprofits without the need for nonprofits to expend financial resources and staff time on fundraising. The previous winners of Give Where You Live grants this year include Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center and Life Learning Center.
